836 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ، قَالَ: ثنا سَالِمٌ أَبُو النَّضْرِ، عَنْ بُسْرِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ: أَرْسَلَنِي أَبُو الْجُهَيْمِ، سَأَلَ زَيْدَ بْنَ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيَّ، مَا سَمِعْتَ فِي الَّذِي يَمُرُّ بَيْنَ يَدَيِ الْمُصَلِّي، فَقَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، يَقُولُ: «لَأَنْ يَمْكُثُ أَحَدُكُمْ أَرْبَعِينَ، خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَمُرَّ بَيْنَ يَدَيِ الْمُصَلِّي»، لَا يَدْرِي أَرْبَعِينَ سَنَةً، أَوْ أَرْبَعِينَ شَهْرًا، أَوْ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْمًا، أَوْ أَرْبَعِينَ سَاعَةً
Busr bin Sa'id narrates: Abu Juham sent me to ask Sayyiduna Zaid bin Khalid al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) what hadith he had heard regarding a person passing in front of someone who is praying. He replied: I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "For a person to wait for forty is better for him than to pass in front of someone who is praying." However, it is not known whether forty refers to years, days, or hours.
