Sayyiduna Zaid bin Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), and Shibl narrate: We were present with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) when he was asked about a slave girl who commits adultery before becoming a muhsanah (i.e., before being married and thus not liable to the hadd punishment). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "If anyone's slave girl commits adultery, then flog her. If she does it again, then flog her again. If she does it again, then flog her again." (The narrator says:) On the third or perhaps the fourth time, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Then sell her, even if it is for a rope." (Imam Humaydi, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The word "dhafeer" used in the text of the narration refers to a rope made from hair.
