688 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ، قَالَ: ثنا أَيُّوبُ السِّخْتِيَانِيُّ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ سَعِيدَ بْنَ جُبَيْرٍ، يَقُولُ: سَأَلْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ رَجُلٌ لَاعَنَ امْرَأَتَهُ، فَقَالَ لِي ابْنُ عُمَرَ بِيَدِهِ هَكَذَا بِإِصْبَعِهِ السَّبَّابَةِ وَالْوُسْطَي: «فَرَّقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَيْنَ أَخَوَيِ بَنِي عَجْلَانَ» ، وَقَالَ: «اللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّ أَحَدَكُمَا كَاذِبٌ، فَهَلْ مِنْكُمَا تَائِبٌ؟»، قَالَ سُفْيَانُ: " وَكَانَ أَيُّوبُ حَدَّثَنَاهُ أَوَّلَا فِي مَجْلِسِ عَمْرٍو، ثُمَّ حَدَّثَ عَمْرٌو بِحَدِيثِهِ هَذَا، فَقَالَ لَهُ أَيُّوبُ: أَنْتَ يَا أَبَا مُحَمَّدٍ أَحْسَنُ لَهُ حَدِيثًا مِنِّي "
Saeed bin Jubair narrates: I asked Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), I said: O Abu Abdur Rahman! Can a man do li'an (mutual cursing) with his wife? So Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) gestured with his hand like this. He pointed with his index finger and middle finger and said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) separated a husband and wife from Banu Ajlan. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah knows that one of you is lying, so will you both repent?" Sufyan says: First, Ayyub narrated this tradition to us in the gathering of Amr, then Amr narrated this tradition in reference to his hadith in this way, so Ayyub said to him: O Abu Muhammad! You can narrate this tradition better than me.
