Hadith 663
663 - قَالَ سُفْيَانُ: وَكَانَ يَحْيَي بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَاهُ، عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ، فَلَمَّا لَقِيتُ مُسْلِمًا حَدَّثَنِيهِ، وَزَادَ فِيهِ، " وَهِيَ مِذَبَّةُ الشَّيْطَانِ، لَا يَسْهُوَ أَحَدٌ، وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: هَكَذَا "، وَنَصَبَ الْحُمَيْدِيُّ إِصْبَعَهُ، قَالَ مُسْلِمٌ: وَحَدَّثَنِي رَجُلٌ أَنَّهُ رَأَي الْأَنْبِيَاءَ مُمَثَّلِينَ فِي كَنِيسَةٍ فِي الشَّامِ فِي صَلَاتِهِمْ قَائِلِينَ: هَكَذَا، وَنَصَبَ الْحُمَيْدِيُّ إِصْبَعَهُ
The same narration is also transmitted with another chain, however, in it these additional words are present: "This is to drive away Satan, so that no person falls into forgetfulness." He also said that in this way, Humaydi (may Allah have mercy on him) raised one of his fingers. The narrator named Muslim says: A person told me that he saw a depiction of some prophets performing prayer in a place of worship in Syria, and they were also doing it in the same manner.
Imam Humaydi (may Allah have mercy on him) had his finger raised.
