Hadith 539
539 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ: ثنا عَطَاءُ بْنُ السَّائِبِ وَسَمِعْتُهُ يَذْكُرُ مَشْهَدًا شَهِدَهُ ثُمَّ يَتَنَفَّسُ وَيَبْكِي فِيهِ فُلَانٌ وَفُلَانٌ وَفُلَانٌ وَفُلَانٌ وَمِقْسَمٌ فَقَالَ لَهُ سَعِيدُ بْنُ جُبَيْرٍ: أَكُلُّكُمْ سَمِعَ مَا يُقَالُ فِي الطَّعَامِ فَقَالَ مِقْسَمٌ: حَدِّثِ الْقَوْمَ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ سَعِيدُ بْنُ جُبَيْرٍ: سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِنَّ الْبَرَكَةَ تَنْزِلُ فِي وَسَطِ الطَّعَامِ فَكُلُوا مِنْ نَوَاحِيهِ، وَلَا تَأْكُلُوا مِنَ وَسَطِهِ»
Sufyan says: Ata bin Saib was once conversing with us, and I heard him mentioning a battle in which he had participated. Then he took a deep breath and began to weep, saying: So-and-so was also there, so-and-so was also there, so-and-so was also there, and Maqsim was also there. Then Saeed bin Jubair said: Has each of you heard that statement which has been said about food? So Maqsim said: O Abu Abdullah! Please tell the attendees that statement. So Saeed bin Jubair said: I heard Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrating: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Indeed, blessing descends in the middle of the food, so eat from its edges and do not eat from its middle.”
