414 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ: ثنا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ مَسْرُوقٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَبَايَةَ بْنِ رِفَاعَةَ بْنِ رَافِعٍ، عَنْ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ قَالَ: قُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّا لَاقُوا الْعَدُوِّ غَدًا وَلَيْسَ مَعَنَا مُدًي أَفَنُذَكِّي بِاللِّيطِ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَا أَنْهَرَ الدَّمَ وَذَكَرْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ اسْمَ اللَّهِ فَكُلُوهُ إِلَّا مَا كَانَ مِنْ سِنٍّ أَوْ ظُفْرٍ فَإِنَّ السِّنَّ عَظْمٌ مِنَ الْإِنْسَانِ، وَإِنَّ الظُّفْرَ مُدَي الْحَبَشِ»
Sayyiduna Rafi‘ bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We said, “O Messenger of Allah! Tomorrow we will face the enemy, and we do not have knives with us, so can we slaughter animals with the bark of a tree?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whatever causes blood to flow, and you have mentioned Allah’s name upon it, eat of it, except that which is slaughtered with a tooth (i.e., bone) or a nail (the specific knife of the Abyssinians).” ‘Tooth’ refers to a human bone, and ‘nail’ is the specific knife of the Abyssinians (these words are perhaps from the narrator).
