Ata bin Abi Rabah narrates: Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) went to Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him). He was in Egypt at that time. He asked him about the hadith which he had heard from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and now there was no one left who had heard that hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) except Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with him). When Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Egypt, he stayed at the house of Muslamah bin Makhlad Ansari, who was the governor of Egypt. When he was informed about this, he quickly came out and went to him. He embraced him and then said: O Abu Ayyub! Why have you come? So Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: I heard a hadith from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and now there is no one left except me and Uqbah bin Amir who has heard that hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so send someone with me who can take me to his house. The narrator says: So the governor sent a person with Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) who took him to the house of Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him). When Sayyiduna Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with him) found out about him, he quickly came out and embraced him and asked: O Abu Ayyub! Why have you come? He replied: I heard a hadith from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and now there is no one left except me and you who has heard that hadith from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and that hadith is about concealing the faults of a believer. So Sayyiduna Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Yes! I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever conceals the fault of a believer in this world, Allah Almighty will conceal his faults on the Day of Resurrection." So Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: You have spoken the truth. Then Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) returned to his mount, rode it, and went back to Madinah. The hospitality of Muslamah bin Makhlad was in the city of Arish in Egypt, and he (Abu Ayyub) had already left. (That is, he intended to host him.)
