Ibrahim bin Abdullah narrates from his father: At the place of ‘Arj, there was a discussion between Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) and Sayyiduna Miswar bin Makhramah (may Allah be pleased with him) about whether a person in the state of ihram can wash his head. They sent me to Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him). When I went to him, I saw him bathing among pieces of wood lying by the edge of a well. When he saw me approaching, he gathered his clothes up to his chest. When I reached him, I said: Your nephew, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), has sent me to you so that I may ask you how you saw the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) washing his head during ihram. So he placed both his hands on his head, moved them from the front to the back, then from the back to the front, and said: Like this, and like this. I returned to those two gentlemen and informed them about this. Then Sayyiduna Miswar bin Makhramah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): I will not argue with you.
