378 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ: ثنا عَبْدَةُ بْنُ أَبِي لُبَابَةَ، وَعَاصِمُ ابْنُ بَهْدَلَةَ أَنَّهُمَا سَمِعَا زِرَّ بْنَ حُبَيْشٍ يَقُولُ: سَأَلْتُ أُبَيَّ بْنَ كَعْبٍ عَنِ الْمُعَوِّذَتَيْنِ فَقُلْتُ: يَا أَبَا الْمُنْذِرِ إِنَّ أَخَاكَ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ يَحْكِيهِمَا مِنَ الْمُصْحَفِ قَالَ إِنِّي سَأَلَتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ قِيلَ لِي «قُلْ» فَقُلْتُ: فَنَحْنُ نَقُولُ كَمَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
Zirr bin Hubaish says: I asked Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) about the Mu'awwidhatayn. I said: O Abu al-Mundhir! Your brother, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), has removed these two surahs from the Qur'an. So Sayyiduna Ubayy (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: I asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about this, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It was said to me, 'Recite,' so I recited." Sayyiduna Ubayy (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We will say exactly what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said.
