Lady Asma bint Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: People asked her: What was the harshest treatment you saw from the polytheists towards the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)? She replied: The polytheists were sitting in the mosque, discussing the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his opinion about their gods. While they were in this state, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) arrived. They got up and went to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Whenever they asked him about something, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would affirm their statement as true. They asked: Did you not say such and such a thing? The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) replied: "Yes!" So all of them attacked the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Then someone called out loudly to Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: Go to your master! So Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) left our place; at that time, he had long hair. He entered the mosque, saying: Woe to you! Do you want to kill a man who says: "My Lord is Allah, and clear proofs have come to you from your Lord"? The narrator says: So they left the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and turned towards Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) (and attacked him). When Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) returned to us, whenever any of his hair was touched, it would come out in the hand, but Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) kept saying: "O Possessor of Majesty and Honor, You are Blessed."
