Hadith 309
309 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ: ثنا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أُمِّ حَبِيبَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ هَلْ لَكَ فِي دُرَّةَ بِنْتِ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ؟ قَالَ «فَأَفْعَلُ مَاذَا» ؟ قَالَتْ: قُلْتُ: تَنْكِحُهَا قَالَ: «أَوَتُحِبِّينَ ذَلِكَ» ؟ قُلْتُ: لَسْتُ لَكَ بِمُخْلِيَةٍ وَأَحَبُّ مَنْ يُشْرِكُنِي فِيكَ أُخْتِي قَالَ: «فَإِنَّهَا لَا تَحِلُّ لِي» قُلْتُ فَإِنَّهُ قَدْ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّكَ تَخْطُبُ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتَ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ فَقَالَ: «ابْنَةُ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ» ؟ قُلْتُ: نَعَمْ قَالَ: «فَوَاللَّهِ لَوْ لَمْ تَكُنْ رَبِيبَتِي فِي حِجْرِي مَا حَلَّتْ لِي لَقَدْ أَرْضَعَتْنِي وَأَبَاهَا ثُوَيْبَةُ فَلَا تَعْرِضْنَ عَلَيَّ بَنَاتِكُنَّ وَلَا أَخَوَاتِكُنَّ»
Sayyida Zaynab bint Abu Salama (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates the statement of Sayyida Umm Habibah (may Allah be pleased with her), who said: O Messenger of Allah! Are you interested in marrying “Durrah,” the daughter of Abu Sufyan? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “What should I do?” Sayyida Umm Habibah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: You should marry her. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: “Do you like this?” I replied: I am not your only wife; I wish that my sister also becomes my partner. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “She is not lawful for me.” So I said: I have heard that you are going to send a marriage proposal for Zaynab bint Abu Salama. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: “For the daughter of Umm Salama?” I replied: Yes. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “By Allah! Even if she were not my stepdaughter, she would still not be lawful for me, because both her father and I were suckled by Thuwaibah. Do not present your daughters or sisters to me for marriage.”
