Umm al-Mu’minin Sayyida Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “An army will surely come with the intention of attacking this House (the Ka’bah), until when they reach an open plain, the middle part of them will be swallowed by the earth. Then the people at the front will call out loudly to those behind, and none of them will remain except for one person who was walking separately, and he will be the one to inform the people about them.” The narrator says: A man said to my grandfather: I bear witness that you have not narrated this incorrectly from Sayyida Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her), and Sayyida Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her) has not narrated incorrectly from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Sufyan says: Umair bin Qais narrated this on the authority of Umayyah, but I did not have the courage to ask him about this. He used to sit with Khalid bin Muhammad and Abdullah bin Shubah, who were among the elders of Quraysh at that time, and they used to sit in the night market which was held at the door of the mosque in those days. So Umayyah sought my help to get permission from Khalid bin Muhammad for him. I was not sure whether I would be able to get this for him or not, but when he asked me for help, I gained the courage regarding this matter and I asked them, and they narrated this hadith to me.
