Hadith 271
271 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ يَحْيَي بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي حَكِيمٍ قَالَ: قَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ: «إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَا يُعَذِّبُ الْعَامَّةَ بِعَمَلِ الْخَاصَّةِ فَإِذَا الْمَعَاصِي ظَهَرَتْ فَلَمْ تُغَيَّرْ أُخِذَتِ الْعَامَّةُ وَالْخَاصَّةُ»
Umar bin Abdul Aziz says: Allah Almighty will not punish all people because of the actions of specific individuals, but when sins become widespread and are not eradicated, then both the common and the elite (all) will be seized.
