Instruction on Purification with Musk after Menstruation
Hadith 167
167 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ: ثنا مَنْصُورُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْحَجَبِيُّ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَتْنِي أُمِّي أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ عَائِشَةَ تَقُولُ: سَأَلَتِ امْرَأَةٌ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الْغُسْلِ فِي الْحَيْضَةِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «خُذِي فِرْصَةً مِنْ مِسْكٍ فَتَطَهَّرِي بِهَا» فَقَالَتْ: كَيْفَ أَتَطَهَّرُ بِهَا؟ قَالَ: «تَطَهَّرِي بِهَا» قَالَ قُلْتُ: كَيْفَ أَتَطَهَّرُ بِهَا؟ فَقَالَ بِيَدِهِ هَكَذَا: «سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ تَطَهَّرِي بِهَا وَاسْتَتَرَ بِثَوْبِهِ» قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ: فَعَرَفَتُ الَّذِي أَرَادَ فَاجْتَذَبْتُهَا، وَقُلْتُ لَهَا: تَتَبَّعِي بِهَا أَثَرَ الدَّمِ
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: A woman asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) about performing ghusl (ritual bath) after menstruation. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take a piece of cotton scented with musk and purify yourself with it." She asked: How should I purify myself with it? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "Purify yourself with it." She again asked: How should I purify myself with it? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gestured with his blessed hand and said: "Subhan Allah! Purify yourself with it." And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) covered himself with his garment. Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I understood what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) meant, so I pulled the woman towards me and said to her: Clean the traces of blood with it.
