Narration on Bathing for Istihada Blood and a Large Tub
Hadith 160
160 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ: ثنا الزُّهْرِيُّ، عَنْ عَمْرَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّ أُمَّ حَبِيبَةَ بِنْتَ جَحْشٍ اسْتُحِيضَتْ سَبْعَ سِنِينَ، فَسَأَلَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: «إِنَّمَا ذَلِكَ عِرْقٌ وَلَيْسَتْ بِالْحَيْضَةِ، وَأَمَرَهَا أَنْ تَغْتَسِلَ وَتُصَلِّي، فَكَانَتْ تَغْتَسِلُ لِكُلِّ صَلَاةٍ وَتَجْلِسُ فِي الْمِرْكَنِ فَيَعْلُوَ الدَّمُ»
Umm al-Mu'mineen Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Umm Habibah bint Jahsh suffered from istihada (non-menstrual bleeding) for seven years. She asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: "This is blood from a vein, it is not menstruation." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed her to perform ghusl (ritual bath) and then offer prayer, so she used to perform ghusl for every prayer. She would sit in a large tub, and the blood would overcome (the water).
