Qais narrates: I heard Sayyiduna Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him) saying: I presented myself before the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was reclining on his cloak in the shade of the Ka‘bah. We were facing severe persecution from the polytheists. I said: O Messenger of Allah! Why do you not supplicate for us? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) then sat up straight, and his blessed face turned red. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Among those before you, there were people upon whom iron combs were used, reaching their flesh and nerves down to the bone, but even that did not turn them away from their religion. A saw was placed on the head of a man and he was cut into two pieces, but even that did not turn them away from their religion. Allah will surely complete this matter, until a rider will travel from Sana‘a to Hadramawt fearing none but Allah.” The narrator named Bayan added these words: “And he will only fear the wolf for his sheep.”
