Musnad al-Humaydi

The narrator named Qais reports: We went to visit Sayyiduna Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him) in his illness; he had seven marks of cauterization on his stomach. He said: If the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had not forbidden us from praying for death, I would have prayed for it. Then he said: Some people before us have already departed (from this world), and they did not attain anything from the world. After them, we remained until the world also came to us, and so much came to us that none of us knows what to do with it except to put it into the earth (i.e., to use it for construction). However, whatever a Muslim spends, he will get reward for everything except for what he spends on the earth (i.e., on construction).
