Narration on the Construction of Masjid al-Haram and al-Aqsa
Hadith 134
134 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ: ثنا الْأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ قَالَ: كُنُتُ أَمْشِي مَعَ أَبِي فَقَرَأَ السَّجْدَةَ فَسَجَدَ ثُمَّ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا ذَرٍّ يَقُولُ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَيُّ مَسْجِدٍ وُضِعَ عَلَي وَجْهِ الْأَرْضِ أَوَّلُ؟ قَالَ: «الْمَسْجِدُ الْحَرَامُ» قُلْتُ: ثُمَّ أَيٌّ؟ قَالَ: «الْمَسْجِدُ الْأَقْصَي» قُلْتُ: كَمْ بَيْنَهُمَا؟ قَالَ: «أَرْبَعُونَ سَنَةً» قُلْتُ: ثُمَّ أَيٌّ؟ قَالَ: «ثُمَّ حَيْثُ أَدْرَكَتْكَ الصَّلَاةُ فَصَلِّ فَإِنَّ الْأَرْضَ كُلَّهَا مَسْجِدٌ»
Ibrahim Taimi narrates: I was walking with my father, he recited a verse of prostration and performed sajdah, then he said: I heard Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) saying: I asked, O Messenger of Allah! Which mosque was built first on the face of the earth? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Al-Masjid al-Haram." I asked: Then which one? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Al-Masjid al-Aqsa." I asked: What was the time span between the two? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Forty years." I asked: Then which one? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then wherever the time of prayer comes upon you, perform the prayer, for the whole earth is a place of prayer."
