Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I said, "O Messenger of Allah! The wealthy people have surpassed us in earning rewards; they pray as we pray, but they spend (in charity) and we do not spend." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not guide you to an action which, if you do it, you will reach those ahead of you and surpass those behind you, except for someone who does the same as you? After every prayer, recite Subhan Allah 33 times, Alhamdulillah 33 times, and Allahu Akbar 34 times." Humaydi (may Allah have mercy on him) says: Sufyan narrated that one of these phrases is to be recited 34 times. (The Prophet (peace be upon him), or perhaps the narrator, said:) "You should do the same when you go to sleep."
