Hadith 125
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyidah Umm Habibah (may Allah be pleased with her) made a supplication: "O Allah! Grant my husband, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), my father Abu Sufyan, and my brother Mu'awiyah a long life." So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have supplicated to Allah regarding something whose time is fixed, whose final limit is determined, and whose sustenance is apportioned. Nothing can come before its appointed time, nor can anything be delayed from it. When that time ends. If you had supplicated to Allah that He save you from the punishment of Hell and the punishment of the grave, that would have been better." (The narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words) "It would have been more virtuous." The narrator states: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about monkeys and pigs: What is your opinion, are they from the descendants of those who were transformed? Or are they something from before that? The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No! They are something from before that, because whenever Allah destroys a people, their progeny and their end is in the form of those who existed before them."
