Wisdom of two people deserving envy
Hadith 99
99 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ عَلَي غَيْرِ مَا حَدَّثَنَا بِهِ الزُّهْرِيُّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ قَيْسَ بْنَ أَبِي حَازِمٍ يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودِ يَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " لَا حَسَدَ إِلَّا فِي اثْنَتَيْنِ: رَجُلٍ آتَاهُ اللَّهُ مَالًا فَسَلَّطَهُ عَلَي هَلَكَتِهِ فِي الْحَقِّ، وَرَجُلٍ آتَاهُ اللَّهُ حِكْمَةً فَهُوَ يَقْضِي بِهَا أَوْ يُعَلِّمُهَا "
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Envy (i.e., permissible envy) is only for two types of people: one is the person whom Allah Almighty has granted wealth and then given him the ability to spend that wealth in the way of truth, or the person whom Allah Almighty has granted wisdom and he judges according to it or teaches it."
