Alqamah narrates: A woman from the tribe of Banu Asad came to the service of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him). She said to him: I have come to know that you curse such-and-such people, and women who tattoo and get themselves tattooed. However, I have read the Qur'an and I did not find this ruling in it, which you say, and I think your wife also does this. So Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said to that woman: Go and see for yourself. The woman went to the house of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and inspected it, but she did not find anything of the sort there. The narrator says: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said to that woman: Have you read this verse: "Whatever the Messenger gives you, take it, and whatever he forbids you from, abstain from it." The woman replied: Yes. So Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: That is it.
