Narration of standing for the funeral
Hadith 51
51 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ يَحْيَي بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ وَاقِدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ نَافِعِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنْ مَسْعُودِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: «إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّمَا قَامَ مَرَّةً وَاحِدَةً ثُمَّ لَمْ يَعُدْ» قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْحُمَيْدِيُّ: وَكَانَ سُفْيَانُ رُبَّمَا حَدَّثَنَا بِهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحِ، وَلَيْثٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي مَعْمَرٍ فَإِذَا وَقَفْنَاهُ عَلَيْهِ يُدْخِلُ فِي حَدِيثِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ أَبَا مَعْمَرٍ وَكَانَ لَا يَقُولُ كُلَّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا
Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once stood up for a funeral, then he did not do this act again.
Imam Humaydi (may Allah have mercy on him) states: Sufyan would sometimes narrate this report from Abu Najeeh and Laith, from Mujahid, from Abu Ma'mar. So when we found this confusing, he included Abu Ma'mar in the narration of Ibn Abu Najeeh as well. He would only use the word "haddathana" when each of the two narrators had used the word "haddathana."
