Duration of wiping over socks and permission for travelers for three days
Hadith 46
46 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي زِيَادٍ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ الْقَاسِمَ بْنَ مُخَيْمِرَةَ يُحَدِّثُ، عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ هَانِئٍ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ عَنِ الْمَسْحِ عَلَي الْخُفَّيْنِ فَقَالَتِ: ائْتِ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ فَاسْأَلْهُ فَإِنَّهُ كَانَ يَغْزُو مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «يَوْمٌ وَلَيْلَةٌ لِلْمُقِيمِ، وَثَلَاثَةُ أَيَّامٍ وَلَيَالِيهِنَّ لِلْمُسَافِرِ»
Shurayh bin Hani narrates: I asked Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) about wiping over leather socks (khuffs), so she said: Go to Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) and ask him this question, because he used to participate in battles with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). The narrator says: I asked Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) this question, so he said: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: "For a resident, its duration is one day and one night, and for a traveler, three days and three nights."
