Guidance to avoid excess like the Christians
Hadith 27
27 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الزُّهْرِيَّ يَقُولُ: أَخْبَرَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ عَلَي الْمِنْبَرِ يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «لَا تُطْرُونِي كَمَا أَطْرَتِ النَّصَارَي ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ فَإِنَّمَا أَنَا عَبْدُهُ فَقُولُوا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ»
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: He heard Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) delivering this statement from the pulpit: He says: I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Do not exaggerate about me as the Christians exaggerated about the son of Maryam. I am (Allah's) servant, so say: His servant and His messenger."
