Narration of a lengthy hadith regarding Siqeefa
Hadith 26
26 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ: أَتَيْنَا الزُّهْرِيَّ فِي دَارِ ابْنِ الْجَوَازِ، فَقَالَ: إِنْ شِئْتُمْ حَدَّثْتُكُمْ بِعِشْرِينَ حَدِيثًا، وَإِنْ شِئْتُمْ حَدَّثْتُكُمْ بِحَدِيثِ السَّقِيفَةِ وَكُنْتُ أَصْغَرَ الْقَوْمِ فَاشْتَهَيْتُ أَنْ لَا يُحَدِّثَ بِهِ لِطُولِهِ فَقَالَ الْقَوْمُ: حَدِّثْنَا بِحَدِيثِ السَّقِيفَةِ فَحَدَّثَنَا بِهِ الزُّهْرِيُّ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ عُمَرَ فَحَفِظْتُ مِنْهُ أَشْيَاءَ، ثُمَّ حَدَّثَنِي بَقِيَّتَهُ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ مَعْمَرٌ
Sufyan says: We went to the house of Ibn Jawaz to attend to Zuhri, so he said: If you wish, I will narrate to you twenty hadiths, and if you wish, I will narrate to you the hadith regarding "Saqiqah." (Sufyan says) I was the youngest among those present, so I wished that he would not narrate a lengthy hadith, but the attendees said: Please narrate to us the hadith regarding "Saqiqah." So he narrated, on the authority of Ubaydullah bin Abdullah, from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), from Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), from which I memorized some parts, and the rest of the narration was later narrated to me by Muammar.
