Musnad al-Humaydi

Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Perform Hajj and Umrah one after the other, for performing them one after the other increases life, removes poverty and sins, just as a furnace removes the rust from iron.” Sufyan says: This narration was reported by a narrator named Abdul Karim from another narrator named Abda, and he from Asim. When Abda came, we went to him to inquire about this narration, and he informed us: Asim narrated this hadith to me, and Asim is also present here, meaning in this city. So we went to Asim and asked him about the narration, and he narrated it to us in the same way. Then after that, I heard him once narrate this hadith as a “mawquf” narration up to Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), and once he did not mention his father in the chain. However, most of the time, he would narrate this hadith from Abdullah bin Amir, from his father, from Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), and from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Sufyan says: Sometimes he would not mention these words before us: “These two increase life.” So we do not mention these words in the hadith, fearing that people might use them as evidence. By “people,” Sufyan meant those who deny predestination, although there is no proof for them in this narration.
