Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Satan has despaired of being worshipped in your land (the narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words) or in your city, but he will be pleased with you regarding your minor deeds, so you should try to avoid minor sins, because they lead to destruction. Shall I give you an example of this? Its example is like some riders who camp in a barren land where there is no wood. They scatter, so one person brings a stick, another brings a bone, another brings dung, until they gather what they want. Sins are also like this.”

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Muhammad Ibrahim bin Basheer
Benefit: In this hadith, the virtue of the land of Hijaz is mentioned, that after the establishment of Islam there, idols will never again be worshipped. This has been proven true: before the advent of the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), the land of Hijaz was filled with idols, but a time came when even the traces of idols were eradicated, and until the Day of Judgment, there will be no existence of idols there, and all praise is due to Allah. In this, the truthfulness of Islam is clearly evident. Believers should avoid minor sins just as they avoid major sins; sometimes minor (saghirah) sins also become a cause of destruction. People of knowledge should explain important matters to the public through examples. It should be remembered that the person who does not care about minor sins will also fall into major (kabirah) sins. Persisting in minor sins makes a person a transgressor (fasiq).
