957 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ، قَالَ: ثنا أَبُو حَازِمٍ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ سَهْلَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ السَّاعِدِيَّ، قَالَ: كُنْتُ فِي الْقَوْمِ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَتَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ، فَقَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي قَدْ وَهَبْتُ نَفْسِي لَكَ، فَارْأَ فِيَّ رَأْيَكَ، فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ، فَقَالَ: أَنْكِحْنِيهَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَكَ بِهَا حَاجَةٌ، قَالَ: فَسَكَتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ قَامَ، فَقَالَ: مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، لِلرَّجُلِ: «هَلْ عِنْدَكَ شَيْءٌ تُعْطِيهَا إِيَّاهُ؟» فَقَالَ: لَا، قَالَ: «فَاذْهَبْ فَاطْلُبْ شَيْئًا» ، فَذَهَبَ، ثُمَّ جَاءَ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، مَا وَجَدْتُ شَيْئًا، قَالَ: «اذْهَبْ فَاطْلُبْ وَلَوْ خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ» ، فَذَهَبَ، ثُمَّ جَاءَ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، مَا وَجَدْتُ شَيْئًا وَلَا خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «هَلْ مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ شَيْءٌ؟» قَالَ: نَعَمْ سُورَةُ كَذَا، وَسُورَةُ كَذَا، قَالَ: «فَاذْهَبَ فَقَدْ زَوَّجْتُكُهَا بِمَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ»
Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d Sa’idi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I was among the people present with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). A woman came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! I offer myself to you (in marriage), so consider your opinion about me. A man stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah! Marry her to me if you have no need of her. The narrator says: The Prophet (peace be upon him) remained silent. The woman stood up again and repeated her request. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to that man: Do you have anything which you can give her (as mahr)? He replied: No! The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Go and look for something!" The man went and then returned and said: O Messenger of Allah! I found nothing. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Go and look, even if it is an iron ring." The man went and came back and said: O Messenger of Allah! I found nothing, not even an iron ring. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Do you know any portion of the Qur’an?" He replied: Yes, I know such and such surahs. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Go! I have married her to you for what you know of the Qur’an."
