Sayyiduna Nu’man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: My father gave me a slave as a gift, so my mother, Sayyidah Amrah bint Rawahah (may Allah be pleased with her), requested him to go to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and make him a witness to it. So my father went to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to make him a witness. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked: “Have you given a similar gift to each of your children?” He replied: No. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “I can only be a witness to what is right.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) refused to be a witness to this.
