Sayyiduna Suraqah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) at the place of "Ji‘irranah." I did not understand what I should ask you. I submitted: O Messenger of Allah! I fill my pond and then wait for my animal to come to that pond, but in the meantime, another animal comes and drinks from it. Will I get a reward for this? The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "You will get a reward for giving water to every thirsty living being." Sufyan says: I had memorized these words of the narration from Zuhri, but some words from the beginning part got mixed up for me, so Wa’il bin Dawud narrated that part to me from Zuhri. Now I cannot clarify which words I had memorized from Zuhri and what Wa’il told me about. Sayyiduna Suraqah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) while he was at the place of "Ji‘irranah." Whenever I passed by any group of the Ansar, they would hit me on the head and say: Go away. Go away. When I came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), I raised that letter. I submitted: It is me, O Messenger of Allah! The narrator says: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had already granted me protection in a written document, so the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "The best day is the one in which a promise is fulfilled and truth is spoken."

Benefit: From this hadith, it is established that giving water to animals is also a great act of reward. Furthermore, it is also proven that Sayyiduna Suraqah (radi Allahu anhu), who was once an enemy of the life of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), at one time became determined to martyr the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) in order to receive a reward from the disbelievers, but he failed in his scheme. He then had a pact of safety written by the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), and it was with this pact of safety that he later came to the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). Islam is the true religion, which all people should accept; in it alone is honor and success.

´It was narrated that Suraqah bin Ju'shum said:` "I asked the Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) about a lost camel that comes to my cisterns that I have prepared for my own camels - will I be rewarded if I give it some water to drink? He said: Yes, in every living being there is reward.'"

Benefits and Issues: ➊ Providing water to someone’s thirsty animal and providing food to someone’s hungry animal is also a good deed, just as providing food and water to a hungry and thirsty person is a good deed.
➋ Giving water to an animal that does not belong to anyone is also a good deed, as in the case of an immoral woman who was forgiven for giving water to a thirsty dog. See: (Sahih Muslim, Chapter: The Virtue of Giving Water and Food to Respectable Animals, Hadith: 2245)
