Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Muhammad Ibrahim bin Basheer
Benefit:
In a detailed hadith from Sunan an-Nasa’i, these very words are mentioned. That detailed hadith is as follows:
(3591) Salamah bin Nufayl al-Kindi (radi Allahu anhu) says: I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) when a man said: O Messenger of Allah! People have diminished the importance and value of horses, put down their weapons, and say: Now there is no more jihad, fighting has ceased. Upon hearing this, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) turned his face towards him (giving him full attention) and said:

“They are wrong and lying. (In reality) the time for fighting has now come. From my Ummah, a group will always remain fighting for the truth, and Allah will keep the hearts of some nations soft towards them, and they (the people of truth) will be provided sustenance through those (misguided people). This will continue until the Day of Resurrection, until Allah’s promise (Paradise for the pious and Hell for the polytheists and disbelievers) is fulfilled. Goodness (khayr) will remain tied to the forelocks of horses until the Day of Resurrection, and it has been revealed to me by way of revelation that soon I will pass away, and you will be divided into different groups, each claiming to follow me, and the situation will be such that (despite each claiming to be upon the truth) you will be cutting each other’s necks, and the courtyard of the Muslims’ house (where they can camp, stay, or be prevented from spaciousness) will be in Sham (Greater Syria).” End.

Also, the meaning of this hadith is that goodness and khayr have been placed in horses for their owners, so keep horses always ready for war and fighting. In the present era, this means keeping the most modern weapons ready, as now wars are not fought with horses but with atom bombs and Kalashnikovs.

“Nawasi al-khayl” refers to the hair that hangs on the horse’s forehead. In the hadith, not only these hairs are meant, but the entire horse is intended.

Benefits and Issues:

➊ The benefits of camels are numerous; especially in desert regions, their importance remains even today.

➋ Goats give birth to more offspring, and they grow up quickly. They eat all kinds of fodder and leaves of trees, which is why they have been declared a source of blessing.

➌ The blessing of horses has been explained in another hadith as being “reward and spoils,” meaning they are useful in jihad. See: (Sahih al-Bukhari, Book of Jihad and Expeditions, Chapter: Jihad will continue with the righteous and the wicked, Hadith: 2852)

➍ Raising animals is a means of lawful livelihood.
