Abdul Malik bin Nawfal narrates: He heard a man from the tribe of Muzaynah, whose name was Ibn ‘Isam, saying: He reported from his father that when the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would send out an expedition, he (peace be upon him) would instruct: “When you see a mosque (in any area) or hear a mu’adhdhin (caller to prayer), do not kill anyone there.” The narrator says: The Prophet (peace be upon him) sent us on an expedition and gave us this same instruction. We set out towards Tihamah. There we encountered a man who was taking some women along with him. We said to him: Accept Islam. He asked: What is meant by Islam? We explained it to him, but he was not familiar with it. He said: If I do not do so, then what do you think, what will you do? The narrator says: We said: We will kill you. He said: Will you wait for me? I will go to these women. We said: Fine, we will reach you. The narrator says: He went to the women and said: “Habish, accept Islam before life comes to an end.” Then another woman said: You ten people accept Islam, or seven people, which is an odd number, or eight, which is a consecutive number. Then that man recited: “Do you remember that day when I set out in search of you, and I found you at the place of Hilyah, or I found you at the place of Khawanq? Was it not necessary that the lover be compensated for the journey of the night and the journey of the scorching midday? There will be no sin upon me for what I have said. If my wife is with me and she permits me to bathe before any calamity befalls among the calamities, she permits me union before the home becomes distant and the ruler decrees separation from the beloved.” The narrator says: Then that man came to us and said: Now do your work. We advanced and struck his neck. Then a woman quickly descended from her howdah; she was of very wheat-colored complexion. She came and threw herself upon him, and she too died.
