Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Some people wearing tattered clothes came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and requested help from him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged the people to give charity, but the people did not give donations. This reaction was apparent from the blessed face of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then a man from among the Ansar brought a piece of iron (the narrator is unsure about one word here), so people, one after another (following his example), began to bring things, until the effect of this was visible on the blessed face of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (i.e., he became very happy). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever initiates a good deed, and it is acted upon, then that person will receive the reward equal to all those who act upon that good deed, and the reward of those who act upon it will not be diminished in the least, and the sin of those will not be diminished in the least."
