Hadith 794

Sayyiduna Jundub bin Abdullah Bajali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I was with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in a battle, and the blessed finger of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was wounded. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "You are only a finger, which has become bloodied; you have faced this situation in the way of Allah."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Muhammad Ibrahim bin Basheer
Benefit:
Here, the hadith is concise, whereas in Sunan Abi Dawud: 2499, there is an addition that the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam addressed his finger and said:
“You have only become bloodied, you have not been destroyed, nor have you been severed from the body. Your being wounded is also in the path of Allah.”
From this, it is understood that even a wound sustained in jihad fi sabilillah (striving in the path of Allah) holds great virtue. Imam Bukhari rahimahullah has established a chapter to clarify its importance: “Whoever is wounded in the path of Allah or is struck with a spear.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, before hadith 2801) Furthermore, he has established another chapter: “The virtue of one who is wounded in the path of Allah.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, before hadith 2804)
May Allah Ta’ala grant us death as martyrs. Ameen.

Hadith Commentary:
It is but a single finger of yours, this very existence of yours, which has been wounded in the path of Allah.

Hadith Commentary:

The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) addressed his finger and said:
“You have only become bloodied, you have not been destroyed nor severed from the body. Your being wounded is also in the path of Allah.”

With this heading, Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has alluded to the hadith presented in the following chapter, in which the virtue of becoming bloodied is mentioned.
In addition, in another hadith, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
“Whoever sets out in the path of Allah, and his horse causes him to fall, or he is bitten by a venomous creature, or he dies due to some illness, then he will be counted among the martyrs (shuhada).” (Sunan Abi Dawud, Al-Jihad, Hadith 2499)
