Abdullah bin Abu Nuhaik narrates: I met Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) in the market, and he said: Are the traders the ones who earn? Are the traders the ones who earn? I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: “Whoever does not recite the Qur’an with a pleasant voice is not from among us.”

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Muhammad Ibrahim bin Basheer
Benefit: In both these hadiths (Hadith No: 76, 77), an issue is stated that the Qur’an should be recited in a loud voice. This discipline is called the science of Tajweed. Regarding this, Imam Jazari (rahimahullah) states: There is no doubt that just as it is necessary for the Muslim Ummah to know the meanings of the Qur’an and to uphold its limits, likewise, it is also necessary to articulate the words of the Qur’an and pronounce its letters with those characteristics which the Imams of Qira’ah have received with an unbroken chain from the Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam); opposing them in any way is not permissible. Here, an important warning is necessary: some professional reciters recite the Qur’an with affectation and in an incorrect manner. This is not correct. And Allah knows best what is right.
