Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Once I was sitting in a gathering in which Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) was also present. During this, Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) came to us in a state of anxiety. We asked: What happened to you? He replied: Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) summoned me for some task. When I went to him, I sought permission to enter three times. When I was not granted permission, I returned. I informed him that I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "When any person seeks permission three times and is not granted permission, he should return." So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Bring proof for what you have stated, otherwise I will give you a severe punishment. Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me: The youngest among those present will go with you. Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Since I was the youngest there, I went to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and informed him that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had said: "When any person seeks permission (to enter someone's place) three times and is not granted permission, he should return."
