Ibn Ayyash, the narrator, says: During the governorship of Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him), two men conducted a transaction of barley and barley without husk. Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) explained: In the blessed time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), two men conducted a transaction of fresh and dry dates. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) inquired: "When the fresh dates become dry, do they decrease (in weight or quantity)?" The people replied: Yes. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is not permissible."
