Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) besieged the people of Ta’if, he said: “If Allah wills, we will depart tomorrow.” The people said: O Messenger of Allah! Will you depart before conquering it? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “If Allah wills, you will fight tomorrow.” The narrator says: The next day, the people fought and suffered severe wounds. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “If Allah wills, tomorrow we will depart for return.” So it was as if the people also desired this, and they remained quiet upon it, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled.
