Muhammad bin Ali narrates: Whenever Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) heard something, he would neither add nor subtract any word from it, nor would he turn away to any other side, nor would he make any omission in it. Ubaid bin Umar narrated a hadith while Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) was sitting there. (The hadith was:) The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The example of a hypocrite is like that of a goat which is between two flocks; sometimes it butts into this one and sometimes it butts into that one." Then Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) explained: The word in the hadith is "Rabidain" (meaning a flock that also has a shepherd with it). Hadith: It was said to him: O Abu Abdur Rahman! The meaning is the same, whether it is between "Rabidain" or between "Ghanamain", so Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) insisted that the word is "Rabidain", just as he had heard it.
