698 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ عَنْ صِيَامِ يَوْمِ عَرَفَةَ، فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ: «حَجَجْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَمْ يَصُمْهُ، وَحَجَجْتُ مَعْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَلَمْ يَصُمْهُ، وَحَجَجْتُ مَعَ عُمَرَ فَلَمْ يَصُمْهُ، وَحَجَجْتُ مَعَ عُثْمَانَ فَلَمْ يَصُمْهُ، وَأَنَا لَا أَصُومُهُ وَلَا آمُرُ بِهِ وَلَا أَنْهَي عَنْهُ»
Ibn Abu Najeeh narrates from his father that a man asked Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) about fasting on the day of Arafah. Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) replied: I performed Hajj with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not fast on that day. I performed Hajj with Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), and he also did not fast on that day. I performed Hajj with Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and he also did not fast on that day. I performed Hajj with Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), and he also did not fast on that day. Therefore, I will not fast on that day, nor will I command it, nor will I prohibit it.
