693 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ، قَالَ: ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، قَالَ: صَحِبْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ إِلَي الثَّنِيَّةِ فَمَا سَمِعْتُهُ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَّا حَدِيثًا وَاحِدًا، قَالَ: كُنَّا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأُتِيَ بِجُمَّارٍ، فَقَالَ: «إِنِّي لَأَعْلَمُ شَجَرَةً مَثَلُهَا كَمَثَلِ الرَّجُلِ الْمُسْلِمِ» ، فَوَقَعَ فِي نَفْسِي أَنَّهَا النَّخْلَةُ، فَأَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَتَكَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ نَظَرْتُ فَإِذَا أَنَا أَصْغَرُ الْقَوْمِ فَسَكَتُّ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «هِيَ النَّخْلَةُ»

Mujahid narrates: I went with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) up to Thaniyyah, and I did not hear him narrate any hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) except one. He narrated: Once we were in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and gum from the date-palm tree was brought to him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I know of a tree whose example is like that of a Muslim servant." (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar [may Allah be pleased with them both] says:) It came to my mind that it was the date-palm tree, and I was about to speak, but I looked around and saw that I was the youngest among those present, so I remained silent. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is the date-palm tree."
