Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a Jew greets you saying 'As-saam alaik' (death be upon you), then you should say 'Alaik' (and upon you)." Abdullah bin Dinar says: There was a man who was previously a Jew and then accepted Islam; he used to greet Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), so whenever Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) replied to his greeting, he would always say 'Alaik.' He said: O Abu Abdur Rahman! I have become a Muslim, yet Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) would still only say 'Alaik.'
