Hadith 667

667 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ، قَالَ: ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ مُنْذُ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ سَبْعِينَ سَنَةً، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: جَاءَ عُمَرُ إِلَي النَّبِيِّ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ مَالًا لَمْ أُصِبْ قَطُّ مِثْلَهُ، تَخَلَّصْتُ الْمِائَةَ سَهْمٍ الَّتِي بِخَيْبَرَ، وَإِنِّي قَدْ أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَتَقَرَّبَ بِهَا إِلَي اللَّهِ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «يَا عُمَرُ، احْبِسِ الْأَصْلَ، وَسَبِّلِ الثَّمَرَةَ»

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) presented himself before the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! I have acquired a piece of land such as I have never acquired before. I have received one hundred shares in Khaybar and I wish to attain closeness to Allah Almighty through them (i.e., by giving them in charity). So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Umar! Keep this land with you and give its produce in the way of Allah."
