Hadith 640

This narration is also transmitted from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) with another chain of transmission, however, in it are these words: "He will not wear such a garment upon which saffron or wars has been applied."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Muhammad Ibrahim bin Basheer
Benefit:
In this hadith, some etiquettes of ihram are mentioned. It is necessary for the one performing Hajj or Umrah to observe these matters when entering into ihram. The brief detail of the ihram clothing is that for men, the ihram consists of two sheets; in the state of ihram, he cannot wear trousers or a shirt, nor can he place a turban or cloth on his head, rather, he must keep his head uncovered. He may wear any kind of footwear, but if he wears army boots or socks (khuff), since army boots and socks cover the ankles, he should cut them below the ankles. It is incorrect for some people to declare the wearing of sandals (qainchi jooti) as obligatory during Hajj and Umrah.

It should be noted that for women, the aforementioned restrictions regarding ihram are not necessary; rather, just as in normal circumstances, in the state of ihram she will keep her head, ankles, and all parts of her body covered. However, it is indeed the case that in the state of ihram, wearing a face veil (niqab) and gloves has been prohibited, but this state applies only when men are not present. Sayyidah Aisha radi Allahu anha states that when we encountered men, we would cover our faces. [سنن ابي داود : 1833 ـ سنن ابن ماجه : 4930] Shaykh al-Albani has graded this narration as hasan.

Here, as a word of advice, it is submitted that just as one exercises great caution during Hajj or Umrah out of fear that one's Hajj might be invalidated, in the same way, at every turn in life, we should exercise complete caution and totally avoid prohibited acts.
