Hadith 617
617 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ، قَالَ: ثنا طَلْحَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَي، عَنْ عَمِّهِ عِيسَي بْنِ طَلْحَةَ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ، يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا قَالَ الْمُؤَذِنُ: اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، قَالَ: «اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ» ، فَإِذَا قَالَ: أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ، يَقُولُ: «وَأَنَا أَشْهَدُ» ، وَإِذَا قَالَ: أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: «وَأَنَا أَشْهَدُ» ، ثُمَّ يَسْكُتُ،
Sayyiduna Muawiyah bin Abu Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When the muezzin said "Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar," the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also said "Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar." When the muezzin said «أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله», the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I also bear witness to this." When the muezzin recited «أشهد أن محمداً رسول الله», the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I also bear witness to this." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent.
