612 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ، قَالَ: ثنا الزُّهْرِيُّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ حُمَيْدَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ فِي يَوْمِ عَاشُورَاءَ، وَهُوَ عَلَي مِنْبَرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، يَقُولُ: «إِنِّي صَائِمٌ فَمَنْ شَاءَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَصُومَهُ فَلْيَصُمْهُ»
Humaid bin Abdur Rahman narrates: On the day of Ashura, I heard Sayyiduna Muawiyah bin Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was present on the pulpit of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "I am fasting, so whoever among you wishes to fast on this day, let him fast."
