611 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ، قَالَ: ثنا الزُّهْرِيُّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ حُمَيْدَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ، يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ فِي يَوْمِ عَاشُورَاءَ وَهُوَ عَلَي مِنْبَرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَدْ أَخْرَجَ مِنْ كُمِّهِ قُصَّتَهً مِنْ شَعْرٍ، فَقَالَ: أَيْنَ عُلَمَاؤُكُمْ يَا أَهْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ؟ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَنْهَي عَنْ مِثْلِ هَذِهِ، وَقَالَ: «إِنَّمَا هَلَكَتْ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ حِينَ اتَّخَذَهَا نِسَاؤُهُمْ»
Humaid bin Abdur Rahman narrates: On the day of Ashura, I heard Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) on the pulpit of the Prophet (peace be upon him). He took out a hair wig from his sleeve and said: O people of Madinah! Where are your scholars? I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbidding its use. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "The Children of Israel were destroyed when their women began to use this."
