Imam Sha’bi narrates: A man came to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) while I was sitting with him. He came, passing over people’s necks, and sat in front of Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him). He said: “Narrate to me a hadith which you (may Allah be pleased with you) heard directly from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Do not narrate to me a hadith through two just narrators.” So Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: ‘A Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand other Muslims are safe, and a Muhajir (emigrant) is the one who abandons evil (the narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words) — who abandons that which Allah the Exalted has forbidden.’”
