584 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ: ثنا الزُّهْرِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ كُرْزَ بْنَ عَلْقَمَةَ الْخُزَاعِيَّ يَقُولُ: سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ هَلْ لِلْإِسْلَامِ مِنْ مُنْتَهًي؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «نَعَمْ أَيُّمَا أَهْلِ بَيْتٍ مِنَ الْعَرَبِ أَوِ الْعَجَمِ أَرَادَ اللَّهُ بِهِمْ خَيْرًا أَدْخَلَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْإِسْلَامَ» قَالَ: ثُمَّ مَهْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ: «ثُمَّ تَقَعُ الْفِتَنُ كَأَنَّهَا الظُّلَلُ» فَقَالَ لَهُ الرَّجُلُ: كَلَّا وَاللَّهِ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «بَلَي وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَيَعُودُنَّ فِيهَا أَسَاوِدَ صُبًّا يَضْرِبُ بَعْضُهُمْ رِقَابَ بَعْضٍ» قَالَ الزُّهْرِيُّ «وَالْأَسْوَدُ الْحَيَّةُ إِذَا أَرَادَتْ أَنْ تَنْهَشَ تَنْتَصِبُ هَكَذَا» وَرَفَعَ الْحُمَيْدِيُّ يَدَهُ ثُمَّ تَنْصَبُّ، قَالَ سُفْيَانُ حِينَ حَدَّثَ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ: لَا تُبَالِي أَلَّا تَسْمَعَ هَذَا مِنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ
Sayyiduna Karz bin Alqamah Khuza'i (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: O Messenger of Allah! Is there any end to Islam? The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes. Whichever household, whether Arab or non-Arab, Allah intends good for, Allah causes Islam to enter upon them." He said: O Messenger of Allah! Then what will happen? The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "After that, there will be tribulations, just like clouds." That person said: By Allah! O Messenger of Allah! This will never happen, if Allah wills. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It will happen, by the One in Whose hand is my soul, at that time many groups of people will incline towards it and they will begin to kill and fight each other." Zuhri says: By "aswad" is meant a snake. When it intends to swallow someone, it stands up like this. Then Humaydi (may Allah have mercy on him) raised his hand and demonstrated it standing up. Whenever Sufyan narrated this narration, he used to say along with it: You should not worry if you have not heard this narration from Ibn Shihab (i.e., I have narrated it to you exactly as it is).
